How to take AI notes in Slack huddles and meetings

Last updated 8 October 2026

To take AI notes in Slack, start a huddle, click AI notes: Off, then Start AI notes & transcription, then Start notes. When the huddle ends, Slack posts a canvas in the huddle thread with who joined, the topics and the action items, with the transcript inside. Huddle notes come with Slack's paid plans (Pro, Business+ and Enterprise+), not the free plan. Otter and Fireflies can also post meeting summaries to a channel.

Slack's own huddle notes are the shortest path if your meetings already happen in huddles. If your meetings run in Zoom or Google Meet, those tools and the note-taker apps below send or save their own summaries. This guide covers the native steps first, then what the notes can and cannot do, then the other options.

How do I turn on AI notes in a Slack huddle?

First start a huddle: in a channel or a DM, click the headphones icon in the conversation header. All huddles start as audio-only conversations. Then turn on notes from inside the huddle.

On desktop:

  1. From your huddle, click AI notes: Off in the top left corner.
  2. Click Start AI notes & transcription.
  3. Click Start notes.

On mobile:

  1. From your huddle, tap the three dots icon at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap Start AI Notes.
  3. Tap Start Notes. A banner confirms that AI notes are on.

Everyone in the huddle is notified when notes are started, stopped or canceled. Slack's huddles page puts it plainly: "AI will never take notes in a huddle without someone in the huddle turning them on."

Plan requirement. Slack's help center lists huddle notes on the Pro, Business+ and Enterprise+ plans. The free plan does not include them, and free huddles are limited to two people and 30 minutes. On Slack's US pricing page on the date checked, Pro is $7.25 per user a month billed yearly or $8.75 billed monthly, and Business+ is $15 per user a month billed yearly or $18 billed monthly. Enterprise+ is priced through Slack's sales team. Slack says huddle notes stay on Pro, so you do not need Business+ for this feature.

Who can use it: Slack says all members, but not guests.

How do I stop, pause or delete huddle notes?

"Anyone in a huddle can stop, resume, or cancel AI notes at any time to control what's transcribed and included in the notes canvas." On desktop:

  1. Click AI notes: On.
  2. Click Stop AI notes to pause, or Resume AI notes & transcription to start again.
  3. To turn notes off completely, click Delete AI notes & transcription, then Delete and cancel to confirm.

Can Slack take huddle notes automatically?

Yes, per channel. Any member of a channel can set AI notes to start on every huddle in it. Slack documents this setting on desktop only:

  1. Open the channel and click the channel name.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Next to Always start AI notes, click Edit.
  4. Check Start AI notes automatically for every huddle in #channel-name.
  5. Click Save.

If you do not see the option, Slack says an owner or admin may have restricted it, and you should ask them.

How do admins control huddle notes?

On Pro, Business+ and Enterprise Select, an owner or admin opens Admin in the sidebar, selects Workspace settings, then Roles & permissions, clicks Feature access and selects AI. Next to the AI feature, they click Edit and choose whether Everyone or No one can use it. On Enterprise Grid and Enterprise+, the same setting lives under Organization settings, with finer options such as only specific people and groups. For huddle notes there is one extra setting: whether people can change the automatic huddle notes setting in channels.

Slack also says the price of your plan does not change if you turn all AI features off.

What do Slack huddle notes include, and who can see them?

After the huddle, Slack shares the notes in a canvas in the huddle thread. The canvas lists the people in the huddle, the topics discussed and the action items, among other things. Slack's pricing table describes the feature as meeting summaries with transcripts, key takeaways and action items.

  • Transcription: the full transcript is embedded in the notes canvas.
  • Who sees it: anyone in the channel or DM where the huddle took place can view the notes, and the canvas can be shared like any canvas.
  • Search: transcripts do not show up in search results.
  • Shared items: links, documents and messages shared during a huddle are saved once it ends.
  • Training: Slack says customer data is not used to train large language models, and that the models are hosted inside Slack's own AWS virtual private cloud.

What are the limits of Slack's AI huddle notes?

  • No guests or external people. Slack's help center says: "It's not possible to use AI notes in huddles with external people or guests." If you meet a client in a Slack Connect channel, plan on another way to take notes.
  • Paid plans only. See the plan requirement above.
  • Languages. Slack's blog from December 2024 said note-taking supported English, Spanish and Japanese, with more in development. The help article does not list languages, so check the current list in Slack before you rely on another language.
  • Retention is not stated. The help article we read does not say how long the notes canvas and transcript are kept.
  • Notes stay notes. The canvas lists action items, but nothing in Slack's help article says the notes create tasks or update other tools for you. Someone still has to do that follow-up.

What other ways are there to get AI meeting notes into Slack?

If your meetings happen outside Slack huddles, these tools can get notes or summaries to your team. Their help pages describe posting to Slack; they do not say whether they can record a Slack huddle.

Otter

After you connect Slack to your Otter account, a Post to Slack button lets you post a meeting summary to a specific channel. To post to a private channel, add the Otter app to that channel first. For a recurring meeting, you can set Otter to post every instance. The help article we read does not state which Otter plan this needs.

Fireflies

Fireflies posts meeting summaries and notes to Slack so the team can review key points and action items in the channel. You have to set up a Slack configuration (choose a channel and customize the message); until you do, no notes are sent. For a private channel, type /invite @Fireflies. Fireflies says its Integration Rules are available on Business or higher plans.

Fathom

Fathom can send highlight clips, and the recording and AI summary of a meeting, to a Slack channel. One limit to know: "Slack channels must be public - Fathom cannot sync to private channels."

Zoom

With the Zoom app for Slack, when a meeting or call ends you get a notification that includes the meeting summary (if enabled) and, if there is one, a link to the recording. Zoom also offers Zoom AI in Slack, which needs your Slack workspace connected to your Zoom account and pre-approval in the Zoom Marketplace.

Google Meet

Google Meet's "Take notes for me" saves notes to a Google doc shared with the meeting's invitees, and participants are told when notes are on. It needs an eligible Google Workspace edition or Google AI plan, and it supports one language at a time. Google's help page does not describe posting the notes to Slack.

Which to pick? If your team meets in huddles with members only, Slack's own notes are already in your paid plan and land in the thread where the work is. If you meet clients, guests or people on other platforms, a Zoom, Meet or note-taker app summary is the better fit, because Slack's notes do not work with external people or guests.

How Glad does this

Glad does not record huddles or take meeting notes. It helps with the part after the meeting. Paste the action items into the huddle thread, mention @Glad and ask in plain words, for example: "@Glad create a task in Asana for each of these action items, and update the Acme deal in HubSpot to Proposal sent." Glad does not read Slack canvases today, so the notes canvas itself is not its input. Glad does the work in the tools your team has connected (1,500+) and reports back in the thread. Before anything that cannot be undone or that leaves your company, it asks for a yes in the thread. Glad only sees the channels it is invited to. It is priced per Slack workspace at a flat monthly price with a hard cap, from $49 a month, with no credits and no seats. See pricing, or how it differs from Slack's own AI in Glad vs Slack AI.
