Summarize a Slack channel with AI, decisions first

You were at a conference for two days. #sales has 214 new messages, three threads mention you, and somewhere in there Leo agreed a price you need to know about.

To summarize a Slack channel with AI, mention @Glad and say which channel and how far back. Glad reads the messages and their threads and replies with the decisions, the open questions and anything waiting on you, each with a link to the message.

@Glad I've been out since Tuesday. What did I miss in #sales and #leadership?
GladAPP
#sales, 214 messages since Tuesday. Decided: Leo agreed $1,150 a month for Saltglass Goods' 3 shops, valid to the end of November. Pebble & Pine moved their go-live to 3 November. Waiting on you: Sol asked twice if Wildcomb Honey's onboarding call can move to Friday.
GladAPP
Open: nobody has answered Dee's question about Kiteline's failed payment. I'm not in #leadership, so I left it out. Invite me there and ask again if you want it.

Add Leo's Saltglass price as a note on the deal.

Approval needed
Add a note to "Saltglass Goods annual plan" in HubSpot: "Agreed $1,150 a month for 3 shops, valid to 30 November (Leo, #sales)."
How it works

How to catch up on a channel with Glad

Add to Slack
  1. 01

Add Glad to Slack and invite @Glad to the channels you want it to read

A private channel needs its own invite.

  2. 02

Ask in any channel or in a direct message with Glad: name the channel and the time span, like "since Monday"

  3. 03

Say what you care about, for example "only decisions and anything for me", and Glad leaves out the rest

  4. 04

Ask for the next step in the same thread, like a HubSpot note for a deal that came up, which waits for your yes

Try saying

Example requests

  • Y

@Glad what did I miss in #sales since Tuesday? Decisions first, then anything that needs me.

  • Y

@Glad summarize this thread in five lines for Maya.

  • Y

@Glad what did #support agree about the Gmail outage this week?

  • Y

@Glad which questions in #ops got no answer in the last three days?

  • Y

@Glad what did Ana and Leo say about Saltglass in #sales this month?

  • Y

@Glad summarize #launch since Friday and save it as a Markdown file.

Other tools

Slack AI summarizes a channel, a direct message or a thread from the conversation menu, on paid plans. Business+ adds a daily recap of the channels you pick. Notion AI can also summarize Slack channels once a workspace owner connects Slack to it, on Notion's Business or Enterprise plan.

Glad

Ask Glad what Leo agreed about Saltglass and you get that answer, with a link to the message, and then the HubSpot note if you want it, after your yes.

Questions

Something else? Write to info@iamglad.ai.

Can Slack AI summarize a channel?

Yes. On paid Slack plans, open the channel, click the three dots at the top and choose Summarize channel, then pick unread messages, the last seven days or a date range. Glad takes a narrower question, like what Leo agreed or what's waiting on you, and can write the HubSpot note from the same thread.

Can Glad summarize a private channel?

Yes, once someone invites @Glad to it. Glad only reads channels it's a member of, and it says so when a channel you named is one it can't see.

How far back can Glad read a channel?

As far as you ask, within the history your Slack plan keeps.

Can Glad summarize a single thread?

Yes. Mention @Glad in the thread, or paste a link to it, and ask for a summary. Say who it's for and how long, like "five lines for Maya".

Does Glad send me a summary every morning?

Glad summarizes when you ask, not on a schedule. Ask when you sit down, and it's in the thread a moment later.

Does a channel summary count as a task?

Yes. Reading a channel and replying with the summary is one task, and the trial includes 50. Asking a follow-up question about the summary in the same thread is free when Glad answers without using a tool.
